Coupons, loyalty points and abandoned carts for your store
Coupons, gift cards, loyalty points, referrals and abandoned cart reminders, and how to set each one so it brings customers back without eating your margin.
Winning a new customer costs more than bringing back an old one, as every store owner learns after their first ad campaign. That is why the Tansik store comes with tools that bring customers back: coupons, gift cards, loyalty points, referrals and reminders for people who leave their cart. They all work in the store's cart and checkout, and they all stay off until you turn them on.
Discount coupons
A coupon is a code the customer types in the cart. When you create one you choose:
- The discount: a percentage, a fixed amount, or free shipping (they can be combined).
- A maximum discount on percentage coupons, so the discount never goes above an amount you set.
- A minimum order for the coupon to apply.
- Start and end dates.
- How many times it can be used, and once per customer, by their phone number.
The coupon list shows each one's state, active, expired or used up, and how many times it has been used. Customers see a clear message if a code has expired, has already been used, or their order is below the minimum.
Gift cards
A gift card is a balance with a code that the customer pays with at checkout, all at once or across several orders until the balance runs out. There are two ways to use them:
- Sell them as a product in your store: once paid, the buyer gets the card's code and value by email and WhatsApp. No VAT is charged when it is sold; it is charged when the card is spent.
- Create them yourself in the dashboard, with an amount, an optional expiry date, and the recipient's name and email if you want it sent to them.
You can see every card's balance, and turn any card off so it can no longer be used.
Loyalty points
Customers earn points on paid orders and spend them as a discount at checkout. You decide:
- How many points per riyal the customer pays.
- What one point is worth when spent.
- The fewest points that can be spent.
- The largest share of an order points may pay.
To protect each customer's balance, a phone number alone can't spend points: the customer also enters their 5-digit customer code, sent to their WhatsApp after their first order. Points are taken back if the order is cancelled or refunded.
Referral rewards
Every customer gets a referral code to share with friends. A new customer who uses it gets a discount on their first order, and the customer who shared it gets points once that order is paid. You set:
- The new customer's discount percentage and its maximum.
- The points the referrer earns.
- How many referrals each customer may make in a month.
- The least amount the new customer's order must reach for the reward to count.
A code can't be used by its own owner, or by someone who has ordered from your store before.
Abandoned cart reminders
Many visitors fill a cart and leave before paying. With reminders on, any visitor who typed a phone or email at checkout but didn't order gets a reminder with a link that puts their cart back as it was:
- The first reminder after the number of hours you choose (from 1 to 48).
- An optional second reminder later, or just one.
- From your own WhatsApp number when your plan includes WhatsApp messages, otherwise by email.
- A coupon you pick, added to the reminder if you like.
To protect your store's reputation, a phone or email gets at most two reminders a week, never after an order, and every reminder has a link to stop them. The abandoned carts list shows what is open, what was reminded, and what came back as an order, with its value.
Tell your customers
A coupon nobody knows about brings nobody back. Send your codes in WhatsApp and email campaigns to contacts who agreed to hear from you, or show them on your site, and the WhatsApp assistant can answer customers' questions about their orders. See also our article on email and WhatsApp campaigns.
Get started
Open the store settings, then "Loyalty & rewards" for points, referrals and gift cards, and "Cart reminders" for abandoned carts, and create your first coupon in the Coupons tab. These tools are described on the coupons and loyalty page, and if you don't have a store yet, start with how to open an online store in Saudi Arabia.
Questions
Do these tools work without the online store?
No. Coupons, gift cards, points, referrals and cart reminders all work in the store’s cart and checkout.
Can points and a coupon be used on the same order?
Yes. The coupon applies first, then points count on what is left, up to the largest share you set in the loyalty settings.
Does every visitor get a cart reminder?
Only those who typed a phone or email at checkout and didn’t order, at most two a week, and they stop as soon as the customer orders or taps the stop link.
